We are being censored

So I posted this on reddit r/activism and a similar post on a polyamory forum:

Hi there guys. I’d like to share with you people our community: full marriage equality; we support ALL kinds of consensual relationships, that includes poly relationships and their right to (multiple persons) marriage as well as incest — only ADULT CONSENSUAL INCEST. We ALL deserve equal rights.

In case any of you want to help our cause, please take a look at our blogs, join our facebook group(s) and forums, and do not hesitate to contact me with any concerns or doubts or questions! We needs LOTS of people if we want any change happening at all. We have to put a STOP on discrimination, not only against LGBT+ people but against poly people and consang people as well who are two very misunderstood and frowned upon groups and still ILLEGAL in many countries. Thanks in advance.

And please don’t worry about not knowing how you can help or how you can contribute to advance our cause. You don’t need to be a writer or blogger or have any special skills. All we need are supportive, open-minded people and there are LOTS of small ways in which you can help.

And both threads have been DELETED by the moderators. On reddit I have actually been banned from the activism subreddit. No explanations in both cases. Same thing happened when I tried to discuss incest on futuretimeline.net a few weeks ago. We are being censored, guys. Incest is still such a taboo in 2017 that we can’t even talk about it openly. This is wrong on so many levels that I don’t even know where to begin. Something needs to be done about censorship ASAP.

  1. Nolan, I agree with you all the way. I’m not exactly surprised by negative reactions from hypocritical people but I am surprised that they would outright ban you or delete you post… at the very least they should give you a brief explanation (like pointing to their rules if their subreddit’s rules ban these kind of topics). I’m just really grateful that the person who runs reddit allows the r/incest sub… That sub is a marginal one and I think many people stigmatize it but the important thing is it exists and although most of the posts are by fetishists, there’s also some smart people there and people who are judgmental can drop by and read the comments (the more balanced, sane ones), with half a chance of changing their mind.

That doesn’t excuse the censorship of other groups at all though. It’s part of their strategy to not associate with consang people, because they don’t want to damage their cause. I think at this stage, there’s still alot of misinformation out there so they don’t know what consang relationships are actually about (separately from the irresponsible fetish people and mostly fake stories)… So they lump everyone together instead of seeing the distinctions.

I’m not saying you should give up. You should keep going and challenging them, if you have the ability to do it without being hurt. But have hope. Just because the mods censor, it does NOT mean that all individuals in the groups will deny consang rights. I know of people that are LGBT and poly who are LEADERS of communities and they recognize consang lovers’ rights. Two people specifically I could tell you about. 🙂 Sooner or later those others will have to face up to their hypocrisy. With GSA on the rise and more fiction exploring consang themes, they will NOT be able to avoid this conversation forever.

Till then, it’s just a matter of choosing which side of the battle you’re on and keep going. 🙂 I’m with you all the way.

(PS. I shall reply to your facebook message next week. Kind of working on an essay for school this week)

  2. I agree with you so much! Thanks for your reply mate. I’ll keep going, no doubt about that even though it is indeed quite discouraging. Especially because, like you said, no explanation was given and I contacted BOTH sites’ mods demanding one. What worries me the most is that this censorship we’re facing is not going to help our cause whatsoever, I agree that it’s only a matter of time but with this censorship in place it’s going to be later rather than sooner. 😦

  3. This is disappointing news, but sadly I am not surprised. It goes to show how taboo incest is when even discussing the subject is considered off-limits in some places. I agree with what Rainbowamory has said here, they don’t want to deal with their hypocrisy. Don’t be discouraged, not all people as as closed minded as these, unfortunately setbacks like this are inevitable.
